When ‘Fake It’ Just Won’t Make It 🚫
"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." — Ralph Waldo Emerson
"What parts of your persona feel true to who you are, and what parts feel borrowed or shaped by others? How can you honor your truth more?"
I remember this family gathering—one of those picture-perfect scenes where everyone seemed to effortlessly slip into roles that made them shine.
The jokes, the easy chatter, the way everyone seemed to know their place.
Except me.
I felt... off. Like I was playing a part in a play I didn’t audition for.
Somewhere between the laughter and the small talk, it hit me. I wasn’t fully myself. I’d unconsciously slipped on masks, ones shaped by years of meeting expectations that weren’t mine.
This realization wasn’t dramatic.
No epiphany with fireworks.
Just a quiet oh. A moment of clarity.
So, here’s the thought for today: strip away the masks. Look at what’s really you and what you’ve picked up just to fit in.
Take a few minutes.
Journal. Scribble on a napkin. Whatever works.
Write down the qualities, quirks, and habits that feel like you.
Then ask: which ones are real? Which ones feel borrowed?
And then, find one small way to show up as your true self today.
No masks. Just you.
It’s messy, sure, but that’s where the good stuff lives—genuine connections, inner peace, and maybe even a little freedom.
